Day Two Hundred Six

This is not a political blog but there is no doubt that the decisions made by our elected officials have an effect on our day to day lives, mine included as my plans have all been hijacked by the lousy real estate market, and I'd just like to ask a simple question.  Where is corporate patriotism?  When did doing what is good for business and good for the nation cease to be considered and only what's good for business considered?  Alright, that is two questions and I'm done now.  Just sayin..... even Apple customer service was in India when I called today.  C'mon Steve!

Before I started this project I knew what blogs were but didn't follow any except the one of a friend but she had only done a couple of posts.  Now that I'm into this I follow a few different ones and am delighted to find all the great information that is out there and the different perspectives I can read.  I came across one that has happy homemaker tips which wouldn't normally interest me but this one is different.  The projects are all very cool and easy and the two women who write it are friends who live on opposite ends of the country and collaborate.  I like that aspect of it a lot, it is yet another example of how this new internet age allows us to be connected in ways we never have been before.  Anyway, one of the projects is to bake in little 16oz wide mouth canning jars so I've done little pecan pies and tonight chocolate cake with peppermint chocolate ganache.  They're ridiculously adorable and after a little arm twisting the kids convinced me we should taste test the cake and it is unbelievably delicious.  I got the idea here, they call them peppermint fudge cupcake jars and I followed their instructions except I omitted the frosting because I filled the jars too full.  They're excellent without the extra sweetness that the icing would bring.

Today I give up these five items:
1.  A blue and yellow hoodie
2.  A really atrocious red jacket with a black collar
3.  Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
4.  Parallel Universes by Fred Alan Wolf
5.  Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray

(Do you suppose Thackeray had hippie parents back in the 19th century?  What's up with that middle name.)

  1. don't quote me on the number, but I heard today that the iPhone alone accounts for 2 billion dollars of the trade deficit as they are made in India...

  2. Those little cakes are too cute! I have tons of canning jars, but most of mine are quart size. I'll have to look around on the internet to see if there are any ideas for using the larger sizes.

  3. I have 2 things to say:

    1)Those cakes were DELICIOUS, and
    2) That jacket didn't seem as atrocious when we all wore them in Jazz band. I just don't know what happened...

  4. Kathy - What a great way to make my point. It saddens me.

Michelle - Your comment got me wondering and I found this: http://www.realfood4realpeople.com/jars.html
Very cool how it separates from the sides of the jar.

James - The ONLY way you could get away with that jacket is if you had a trumpet in your hand!
